This event has already happened but don’t worry! You can watch the recording here.

Join us for a free and virtual WiLSWorld Shorts on Friday, March 1st at 1:00 pm featuring Mukurtu – An Introduction!

Mukurtu, developed by Washington State University’s Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation, is a free and open source digital archive and content management tool aimed at the specific needs of Indigenous peoples globally. It is a tool that allows communities to preserve, share, manage, license, and curate digital heritage and stories using their own cultural protocols, languages, and social values. The name mukurtu comes from the Warumungu language in Australia. It means “dilly bag” — a safe keeping place for sacred materials.

As part of an IMLS grant awarded to Washington State University, WiLS and the iSchool at UW-Madison are providing support and training in Mukurtu to tribal and non-tribal cultural heritage institutions in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois. This WiLSWorld Short, presented by Erin F.H. Hughes, Midwest Mukurtu Hub Manager, and Andrea Cudworth, Midwest Mukurtu Hub Project Assistant, will focus on what the Mukurtu Content Management System (CMS) is, why it is important and different than other CMS in use, and Mukurtu’s presence globally and within Midwest communities.
